The progression of an egg

(In simplified form)

I start with 18ga to 20ga 3" and 2 1/2" diameter Silver disks.

Next I spin them to the desired shape using a spinning lathe.

Begin spin, takes several passes to move the metal.  Here I am using the scissor tool to move the metal.

Still moving the metal, top and bottom egg forms.  Here I am using both the scissor tool and the hand tool.

Finish and clean up.

Once I have trimmed the cups to the desired size I need, I drill a 1/4" hole in the top of each shell in preparation for the next step in the operation.  I then etch the exterior of the egg with a desired pattern using my Rose machine.

Next I fire the forms in a kiln at about 1300 degrees for approximately 1 to 1 1/2 minutes.
